The West Bengal state government announced plans to establish a dedicated magic school and an adjoining museum, marking the first such institution in India.
The state cabinet approved a project to set up a dedicated magic school and a companion museum under the Department of Culture and Education. The initiative aims to nurture performing arts and preserve the legacy of illusion in India.
The school will provide structured curricula covering magic theory, performance techniques, safety protocols and historical context, targeting school‑going children and aspiring magicians. Adjacent to the school, the museum will display historic props, memorabilia of renowned Indian magicians and interactive exhibits for visitors.
Officials expect the venture to boost cultural tourism and generate niche employment opportunities. Construction is slated to begin in the next fiscal year, with an inauguration planned within two years.
The project will be financed through the state budget complemented by private sponsorships, aligning with West Bengal’s broader push to integrate cultural heritage with formal education.
