Uttar Pradesh Mandates Use-By Date Labelling on All Sweets

The Uttar Pradesh government has issued an order making it compulsory for all sweet manufacturers and retailers to display the use‑by date on their products. The decision comes after inspections at sweet production and sales outlets showed that many consumers were not being given clear information about the date of manufacture and expiry. Under the new rule, every packet, box or loose sweet must carry a legible label showing both the manufacturing date and the recommended use‑by date. The directive applies across the state and is effective immediately, with authorities expected to monitor compliance.
