Tripura's chief minister will meet the Union government to press for accelerated work on the Maitri Setu bridge and the proposed rail connection with Bangladesh.
The chief minister of Tripura is scheduled to approach the Union cabinet to highlight the strategic importance of completing the Maitri Setu bridge over the River Feni, which links the two nations. He will also seek central support for the pending Indo‑Bangla railway line that aims to connect Agartala with Bangladesh's railway network, enhancing trade and passenger movement.
The CM emphasized that the bridge, already under construction, is crucial for regional connectivity and economic growth in the North‑East. Accelerating its completion, he argued, would reduce logistics costs and boost cross‑border commerce.
In parallel, the railway project, long discussed between New Delhi and Dhaka, is expected to open a new freight corridor and provide a direct passenger route. The minister urged the Centre to allocate necessary funds and expedite clearances to bring both projects to operational status.
Officials said the discussions will be part of a broader dialogue on infrastructure development in the region, aligning with India's Look East policy and Bangladesh's connectivity agenda.
