The Indian Meteorological Department has warned that Storm Murasu will deliver very heavy rainfall across northern Tamil Nadu, potentially causing flooding and disruptions.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has identified Storm Murasu as a low‑pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal, moving northward toward the coast of Tamil Nadu.
IMD forecasts that the storm will bring rainfall amounts exceeding 200 mm in some districts of northern Tamil Nadu, with peak intensity expected between 12:00 and 18:00 local time on Thursday.
Heavy rains are likely to cause flash flooding in low‑lying areas, disrupt transportation, and pose risks to agricultural activities in the affected regions.
Local authorities have issued a red alert for the districts of Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi and Virudhunagar, and have advised residents to stay indoors and keep emergency supplies ready.
