International collections are increasingly driving the success of Malayalam films in Kerala, according to Onmanorama.
Kerala's Malayalam film industry is witnessing a noticeable lift in its domestic box‑office performance, fueled by strong earnings from overseas markets. Trade analysts cited recent releases that have garnered substantial revenue abroad, which in turn has bolstered ticket sales and occupancy rates within the state.
The trend reflects a growing appetite for Malayalam cinema among diaspora audiences, whose contributions now form a significant portion of a film's total gross. Distributors are increasingly factoring international pre‑sales into their release strategies, allowing for wider releases and better promotional budgets.
Industry observers note that this overseas‑driven momentum helps mitigate seasonal fluctuations in the local market and provides a more stable revenue stream for producers. As global interest in regional Indian content expands, Kerala's box‑office outlook appears increasingly linked to its performance beyond India's borders.
