A new daily express train linking Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus with Sawantwadi Road on the Konkan line will commence service today after a formal inauguration.
The Konkan Railway has launched a new daily express service that connects Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai with Sawantwadi Road station on the Konkan coast.
The inaugural ceremony took place at CSMT on Thursday, with senior railway officials and local dignitaries in attendance. The train was officially named the "Konkan Express" and received a ceremonial blessing before its first run.
The new service is expected to cut travel time between Mumbai and the Konkan region by about an hour, offering a faster and more comfortable option for commuters and tourists alike. It also aims to boost local economies by improving connectivity to coastal towns.
The train will run once a day, departing from CSMT at 10:00 AM and arriving at Sawantwadi Road around 6:30 PM. Fares will be in line with existing express rates, and the train will feature both AC and non‑AC coaches.
