Naga village chiefs in Manipur's Ukhrul district have publicly backed the United Nationalist Congress's endorsement of the upcoming COCOMI rally, according to the Ukhrul Times.
The village elders of several Naga settlements in Ukhrul have signaled their approval for the United Nationalist Congress (UNC) endorsement of the COCOMI rally scheduled in the region. The chiefs, representing traditional authority in the area, said the endorsement aligns with community aspirations and the broader political agenda of the rally.
According to the Ukhrul Times, the chiefs' backing was conveyed through a joint statement released earlier this week. The statement emphasized the importance of peaceful assembly and highlighted the rally's focus on regional development and cultural preservation.
Political analysts note that the UNC's involvement in the rally reflects its strategy to strengthen ties with tribal leadership in Manipur's hill districts. The chiefs' support may also influence voter sentiment ahead of upcoming local elections.
The COCOMI rally, organized by a coalition of civil society groups, is expected to draw participants from across the state. Authorities have been urged to ensure security and facilitate smooth conduct of the event.
Further details on the rally's program and attendance are awaited, but the endorsement by Naga village chiefs marks a notable development in the political dynamics of the region.
