Monsoon Withdrawal Advances in Northwest India as Andaman Sea Depression Strengthens

The monsoon trough is retreating from north‑west India, while a low‑pressure system over the Andaman Sea is expected to intensify, meteorologists said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that the monsoon withdrawal is gaining momentum across the north‑west region, covering parts of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Punjab. Satellite imagery shows the monsoon trough receding, with decreasing cloud cover and reduced rainfall in these areas.
At the same time, a depression has formed over the Andaman Sea. Forecasters say the system is likely to deepen over the next 48 hours, bringing stronger winds and heavier showers to the islands and nearby coastal zones.
The contrasting weather patterns have prompted the IMD to issue advisories. While the north‑west states can expect drier conditions that may affect sowing schedules, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are warned of possible flooding and disruptions to sea travel.
