The Centre for Agricultural University recognised Meghalaya’s farmers and agricultural researchers during its academic assembly in Umiam, highlighting their role in boosting regional farming practices.
The Centre for Agricultural University (CAU) held its academic assembly in Umiam, where a special ceremony honoured a group of Meghalaya farmers and agricultural scientists. The event brought together local farming communities, research professionals and CAU officials to acknowledge the contributions made toward improving crop yields and sustainable practices in the state.
Organisers highlighted that the honourees have played a pivotal role in introducing climate‑resilient varieties, promoting organic methods and facilitating knowledge transfer between research institutions and field practitioners. Their efforts are credited with enhancing food security and livelihoods across the hilly terrain of Meghalaya.
The ceremony underscored CAU’s commitment to fostering collaboration between science and farming, and it called for continued partnership to address emerging challenges such as erratic rainfall and market access. Attendees were encouraged to build on the successes celebrated at the assembly to further strengthen the region’s agricultural sector.
By publicly recognising these contributors, CAU aims to motivate other stakeholders to adopt innovative approaches and to sustain the momentum of agricultural development in the Northeastern region.
