Police in Kumarghat, Tripura, confiscated Burmese cigarettes worth about Rs 10 lakh and illegal firecrackers, and detained three suspects in coordinated raids.

Police officials in Kumarghat, a town in Tripura, carried out two simultaneous operations targeting the illegal trade of tobacco and fireworks. The raids resulted in the seizure of Burmese-manufactured cigarettes estimated at a market value of Rs 10 lakh, along with a cache of unauthorised firecrackers.

Investigators recovered the contraband from multiple locations and detained three individuals suspected of involvement in the smuggling network. All three detainees are being held for further questioning under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and the Explosives Act.

The seizure underscores the state’s ongoing effort to curb the influx of illicit tobacco products and unlicensed fireworks, which pose health risks and public safety concerns. Authorities have reiterated that similar operations will continue to enforce existing regulations and protect citizens from illegal goods.
