Deputy Chief Minister K.T. Rama Rao’s new sewage treatment initiative is set to enhance the water supply managed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board.

Hyderabad's water authority, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), will receive additional treated water under a plan announced by Deputy Chief Minister K.T. Rama Rao. The scheme focuses on upgrading existing sewage treatment facilities and constructing new plants to channel reclaimed water into the city's supply network.

The initiative aligns with the state government's broader push to address water scarcity by recycling wastewater for potable use. Officials say the treated water will supplement existing sources, helping to meet the growing demand of Hyderabad's expanding population.

State officials highlighted that the project will be implemented in phases, with priority given to areas facing the most acute water shortages. The plan also aims to reduce the city's dependence on distant reservoirs and improve overall water security.

While detailed timelines were not disclosed, the HMWSSB has indicated readiness to integrate the reclaimed water into its distribution system once the treatment facilities become operational.
