The Election Commission of India has cautioned voters in Jharkhand about fraudulent SIR emails that falsely claim removal from the electoral roll.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) issued an advisory on Monday urging voters in Jharkhand to disregard any SIR (Service Request) emails that allege deletion from the electoral roll. The notice highlighted that such messages are part of a phishing campaign designed to harvest personal data and spread misinformation ahead of upcoming elections.

According to the ECI, the fake emails mimic official correspondence, using the ECI logo and a generic address, but they contain links that direct recipients to unauthenticated websites. Voters are advised to verify any communication by checking the official ECI portal or contacting the local electoral office directly.

The commission reiterated that any legitimate changes to the electoral roll are communicated through registered post or verified SMS alerts, not through unsolicited email. It also urged citizens to report suspicious messages to the cyber crime cell of the Jharkhand police.

This alert comes as authorities intensify efforts to curb digital fraud and ensure a smooth electoral process across the state.
