ISRO employees raise alarm over privatization of rocket production

Thousands of ISRO staff have written to the agency's chief seeking clarification on plans to involve private firms in rocket manufacturing, fearing job losses due to increased privatization.
A group of ISRO employees has formally addressed a letter to the space agency's chairman, questioning recent moves toward greater private sector participation in rocket manufacturing. The staff members argue that the shift toward privatization could jeopardise the job security of thousands of workers who have been part of India's space programme for decades.
The correspondence, reportedly signed by representatives of several employee unions, seeks a clear response from the ISRO chief on whether private firms will be allowed to design, build or launch rockets that were traditionally produced in-house. The employees contend that such a transition, if not managed transparently, may lead to redundancies and affect morale across the organisation.
ISRO has not yet issued an official statement on the matter. However, the agency has previously indicated openness to collaborations with private players under the broader "Atmanirbhar Bharat" initiative, aiming to boost indigenous capabilities while leveraging commercial expertise.
