President Isaac Herzog has tasked Gadi Eisenkot with forming Israel’s next cabinet after receiving recommendations from 67 lawmakers, but coalition talks face hurdles as partners disagree on alliances with Arab and ultra‑orthodox parties.
President Isaac Herzog has officially appointed Gadi Eisenkot to lead the formation of Israel’s next government.
Eisenkot has secured recommendations from 67 lawmakers, yet he faces significant obstacles in building a coalition, as prospective partners hold divergent views on collaborating with Arab and ultra‑orthodox factions.
The move comes amid Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s push to form a national unity government, which he sees as a countermeasure to Eisenkot’s coalition strategy.
Eisenkot’s task will involve negotiating with a broad spectrum of parties to assemble a majority, a challenge that has already sparked debate among political analysts.
The outcome of these negotiations will determine whether Israel can move forward with a stable cabinet or continue to grapple with political fragmentation.
