India is shifting focus to geothermal energy, tapping heat deep underground to supply round‑the‑clock clean power, the Economic Times reports.

New Delhi – The government is now looking beyond solar and wind to develop geothermal power, a technology that extracts heat from deep underground to generate electricity continuously. Officials say the move aims to provide a reliable, baseload source of renewable energy that can operate day and night, addressing intermittency concerns of other renewables. Pilot studies are underway to assess the technical and economic viability of geothermal sites across the country. If successful, the projects could diversify India's clean‑energy portfolio and reduce dependence on fossil‑fuel peaking plants. The Economic Times highlighted the strategy as a significant shift in the nation’s renewable roadmap.
