India has received a Russian Su‑57 fighter jet offer but remains committed to its domestic Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) program.

The Indian government has acknowledged a formal offer from Russia for the Su‑57 fifth‑generation fighter jet.

However, officials have reiterated that the country’s primary focus remains on the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), a domestic project aimed at producing a fifth‑generation fighter.

The AMCA programme, which is still in the prototype stage, is seen as a strategic priority to reduce dependence on foreign aircraft and to boost indigenous defence technology. While the Su‑57 offer is on the table, no concrete decision has been taken and the procurement process is expected to be lengthy.

Defense analysts note that India’s decision reflects a cautious approach to foreign procurement, preferring to invest in domestic capabilities that can be tailored to local operational needs and future upgrades.
