The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday upgraded its warning to a red‑yellow alert, signalling the likelihood of intense rainfall over a number of states in the country. Meteorologists expect the monsoon trough to intensify, bringing prolonged downpours that could exceed 100 mm in 24 hours in the affected regions.
State disaster management agencies have been alerted and are mobilising resources, including sandbags, rescue teams and early‑warning systems, to mitigate the risk of flash floods and landslides.
