A man in Gwalior reportedly struck his wife on the head with a pestle during the Karwa Chauth festival and later called police to report the killing.
Gwalior police received a call on Karwa Chauth from a man who reported that he had killed his wife by striking her on the head with a kitchen pestle. The incident is said to have occurred during the traditional fasting ceremony observed by married women in the city.
The victim sustained fatal injuries after being repeatedly hit with the heavy utensil, according to the initial statements recorded by investigators. The husband, who made the emergency call, informed authorities that the assault had resulted in his wife's death.
Law enforcement officials have opened a murder investigation and have registered a case against the suspect. The police are conducting forensic examinations at the residence and have begun questioning neighbours and family members to establish the sequence of events.
The case highlights concerns about domestic violence during cultural festivals, prompting local officials to urge community members to seek help if they face threats at home.
