Himachal Pradesh government amends rules to boost road protection, maintenance

The Himachal Pradesh administration has introduced a set of amendments intended to enhance the protection and upkeep of the state’s road network. The changes were outlined by the minister in charge of the Public Works Department (PWD), who emphasized the need for more robust infrastructure in the hilly terrain.

Under the new provisions, standards for road construction and repair will be tightened, with mandatory periodic inspections and stricter quality controls for materials. The amendments also allocate additional budgetary resources to ensure timely maintenance and rapid response to damage caused by weather or landslides.

The PWD minister said the reforms are expected to reduce road accidents and improve connectivity for residents and tourists alike. Officials will monitor implementation closely and issue regular performance reports to the state cabinet.
