A kabaddi player from Gujarat has become the first woman from the state to earn a place in India's national squad and is now aiming for a medal at the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
For the first time in its history, Gujarat has produced a female athlete who has been selected for the Indian national kabaddi squad. The player, whose name has not been disclosed in the source, secured her spot after a series of domestic and national trials that evaluated skill, fitness and tactical awareness.
Her inclusion marks a milestone for the state's sports development, highlighting the growing participation of women in traditionally male-dominated disciplines. Coaches and officials praised her agility and defensive prowess, noting that she brings a fresh dynamic to the team's composition.
Looking ahead, the athlete has expressed a clear objective: to contribute to India's medal tally at the Commonwealth Games. With the tournament scheduled for next year, she will join intensive training camps alongside senior teammates, focusing on strategies that could translate her state-level success onto the international stage.
