India’s Goods and Services Tax receipts climbed 22.9% year‑on‑year to ₹2.31 lakh crore in October, with Maharashtra recording the highest collection among all states.

India’s central government reported that the total Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections for October rose by 22.9% compared with the same month last year, reaching ₹2.31 lakh crore. The increase was driven by a stronger domestic demand and a steady rise in taxable turnover across sectors.
Maharashtra stood out as the top‑earning state, contributing the largest share of the national total. The state’s robust industrial base and high compliance rates helped it lead the list of states in GST receipts.
The data, released by the Ministry of Finance, also highlighted that the growth rate in GST collections is a positive sign for the country’s fiscal health. Analysts expect the trend to continue as the economy recovers from the pandemic slowdown.
