Coal India Limited reported a record monthly coal supply of 70.3 million tonnes in October 2026, surpassing previous highs and reinforcing its position as the world’s largest coal producer.

Coal India Limited (CIL) announced that it supplied a record 70.3 million tonnes of coal in the month of October 2026, the highest monthly output ever achieved by the company.

The figure eclipses all prior monthly totals, underscoring CIL’s continued dominance in India’s coal sector and its ability to meet the growing demand from power utilities and industrial users.

The record supply is expected to bolster domestic power generation, as coal remains the backbone of India’s electricity mix. It also signals that the company’s mining operations are operating at full capacity, benefiting from improved logistics and production efficiencies.

Industry analysts note that such a high output will help maintain energy security and could provide a buffer against potential supply disruptions in the coming months.

CIL’s achievement comes at a time when the government is pushing for increased domestic coal production to reduce reliance on imports and support the country’s energy transition goals.
