Ex‑Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh said the BJP must work to restore confidence in the state and cautioned that internal disputes could affect its performance in the upcoming elections.
Former Manipur chief minister N. Biren Singh addressed party workers and media, stating that the Bharatiya Janata Party needs to win back the confidence of the people of Manipur before the state assembly elections. He highlighted that recent public sentiment has shown signs of disappointment, and the party must demonstrate tangible governance outcomes to restore its image.
Singh warned that growing infighting within the state unit could undermine the BJP’s electoral prospects. He said internal disagreements, if left unchecked, risk diverting attention from core development agendas and may be exploited by opposition forces.
Calling for unity, Singh urged senior leaders to prioritize consensus-building and focus on issues such as infrastructure, health and education that matter to voters. He refrained from naming any individual, emphasizing that collective effort is essential for the party’s success in the forthcoming polls.
The remarks come as the Election Commission is expected to announce the schedule for Manipur’s legislative assembly election later this year, a contest that will test the BJP’s ability to retain power in the northeastern state.
