A 45‑year‑old woman in Bhind fell into a 16‑foot deep hole after the floor of her house gave way while she was changing a bed sheet. She was pulled out with the help of relatives and neighbours using a ladder.
The floor of a residential house in Bhind, Madhya Pradesh, suddenly gave way as a 45‑year‑old woman was changing a bed sheet. The collapse created a pit roughly 16 feet deep, into which the woman and her bed fell.
Family members and nearby residents responded quickly, bringing a ladder to the site. Using the ladder, they were able to pull the woman and the bed out of the hole, preventing any serious injury.
Preliminary checks of the property revealed an old grain storage chamber built before India’s independence beneath the house. Authorities suspect the aging structure may have contributed to the floor’s failure, and a detailed investigation is underway.
Local officials have advised residents to inspect older homes for similar hidden voids and to seek professional assessment before undertaking any repairs or renovations.
