Former India player remarked that destiny denied Mohammed Shami’s hoped‑for return to Test cricket, after the pacer’s comeback plans fell through.
Mohammed Shami, one of India’s leading fast bowlers, had been expected to re‑enter the Test side after a period away from the longest format. Reports indicated that the pacer was preparing for a comeback, but the selection did not materialise.
An unnamed former India cricketer, speaking to Yahoo Sports, summed up the disappointment with the phrase “God did not accept it”. The comment reflects the sentiment among many who had hoped Shami’s experience would bolster the Test attack.
While Shami continues to feature regularly in limited‑overs squads, his absence from the Test roster remains a point of discussion among fans and analysts. The former player’s remark underscores the uncertainty surrounding his role in the longest format moving forward.
No official statement from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been released regarding the decision, and Shami has not publicly addressed the speculation.
The episode adds to ongoing debates about squad composition and the balance between pace and spin in India’s Test strategy.
