The fifth phase of the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme is extending guaranteed loans to firms, enabling them to absorb recent economic shocks.

The Government of India has rolled out the fifth iteration of the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS 5.0), a credit guarantee programme aimed at strengthening the liquidity of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Under the scheme, banks can extend loans to eligible businesses with a government guarantee covering a substantial portion of the credit risk.

By providing assured access to finance, ECLGS 5.0 is helping firms navigate the volatility caused by recent economic disruptions, including supply‑chain strains and fluctuating demand. Business owners report that the guaranteed credit has allowed them to meet working‑capital needs, retain staff and avoid default on existing obligations.

The scheme forms part of a broader policy push to safeguard the private sector during periods of macro‑economic stress. Early feedback from the business community, as highlighted in DD India’s coverage, suggests that the guaranteed loans are improving cash flow and bolstering confidence among MSMEs.

Officials say the programme will continue to be refined based on uptake and impact data, with the aim of sustaining credit flow as the economy recovers.
