A 70‑year‑old woman in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, was treated after severe nasal pain and bleeding, when doctors extracted about 60 live fly larvae using an endoscope.

Doctors at the District Hospital in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, attended to a 70‑year‑old patient who complained of intense pain and persistent bleeding from her nose. The symptoms had worsened over several days, prompting her family to seek emergency care.

Using an endoscopic instrument, the medical team visualised the nasal cavity and discovered a large number of live fly larvae. Over the course of the procedure, approximately 60 larvae were carefully removed without causing additional injury.

The patient responded well to the treatment, with the bleeding stopping and the pain subsiding. After a short observation period, she was declared stable and discharged with advice for follow‑up care.

Such infestations, medically termed nasal myiasis, are rare in urban hospitals and underscore the importance of early medical intervention in cases of unexplained nasal symptoms.
