The government has given the green light to the Delhi‑Guwahati high‑speed rail project, and Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw disclosed the proposed stations and an estimated end‑to‑end travel time.

The central government has formally approved the Delhi‑Guwahati bullet‑train corridor, marking a major step toward linking the national capital with the northeastern city via high‑speed rail. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the decision during a press briefing, emphasizing the project's role in boosting regional connectivity and economic growth.

Vaishnaw released a tentative list of stations that will serve as key nodes along the route, covering major urban centres across Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Assam. While the exact sequence of stops remains subject to detailed planning, the inclusion of these hubs is intended to maximize passenger access and integrate with existing rail networks.

The minister also shared the projected end‑to‑end travel time, noting that the high‑speed service will cut the journey to well under the duration of current conventional trains. This reduction is expected to make inter‑city travel faster and more competitive with air travel.

Implementation will proceed in phases, with detailed project reports, land acquisition and financing arrangements slated for the coming months. Authorities aim to commence construction within the next fiscal year, targeting operational readiness in the early 2030s.
