Delhi Police Deploy Facial Recognition in Sadar Bazar Ahead of Diwali

Delhi police have stepped up security measures in the bustling Sadar Bazar market as the city prepares for Diwali celebrations. The deployment includes a network of facial‑recognition cameras positioned at key entry points and narrow lanes to track individuals in real time.

Officials say the technology will help identify persons with pending criminal cases or those flagged for security threats, allowing rapid intervention before any incident escalates. The system is linked to a central command centre that monitors feeds around the clock.

The move comes amid heightened concerns over crowd management and potential petty crimes during the festive season. Police spokesperson emphasized that the surveillance is strictly for public safety and will operate within existing legal frameworks.
