Darshinis across Karnataka have increased their filter coffee prices, citing rising costs of coffee beans, packaging and transportation.
Darshinis, the small coffee stalls that serve Karnataka’s daily filter coffee, have begun raising their prices in response to a surge in the cost of key inputs. The owners say that the price of coffee beans has climbed sharply, while packaging materials and transportation charges have also risen.
The move comes after a series of hikes in the prices of raw coffee beans across the state, which has pushed many small vendors to adjust their margins. Darshinis argue that the increased costs are unavoidable and that they must pass on a portion of the burden to consumers.
Customers have expressed mixed reactions. While some are willing to pay a little more for their daily cup, others are looking for cheaper alternatives or are reducing their consumption.
The price hike is expected to affect the daily routine of many Keralites who rely on filter coffee as a staple beverage. The government has not yet issued any directive regarding the price changes, leaving the decision to the discretion of individual vendors.
