A scripted video claiming a girl’s abduction went viral on social media, prompting Bihar cyber police to trace it to a Motihari youth and label it a hoax.

Social media platforms were flooded with a video that purported to show the kidnapping of a girl, sparking panic and criticism of Bihar's law‑and‑order image. The clip, later identified as scripted, was shared widely as a genuine incident, leading to heightened fear among net users.

Bihar's cyber crime unit launched an investigation after the video gained traction. Using digital forensics, investigators traced the source of the footage to a young man residing in Motihari, a town in the East Champaran district. The suspect was placed on a monitoring radar, and the police issued a statement confirming that no actual abduction had taken place.

Authorities warned the public against sharing unverified content, emphasizing that such misinformation can tarnish the state's reputation and incite unnecessary alarm. The cyber police have urged citizens to report similar suspicious material and to rely on official channels for verification.

The incident underscores the growing challenge of digital hoaxes in India, where rapid dissemination of false narratives can quickly influence public perception. Law enforcement agencies continue to strengthen monitoring mechanisms to curb the spread of fabricated videos.
