The Chamber of Trade and Industry has written to the Delhi Police Commissioner asking for a ban on all rallies, dharnas and protests in Central Delhi until Bhaiya Dooj, warning of a potential ₹14,000 crore loss to businesses during the festive season.

In a formal letter addressed to the Delhi Police Commissioner, the Chamber of Trade and Industry (CTI) has requested that authorities prohibit any rallies, dharnas or other public demonstrations in Central Delhi until the Hindu festival of Bhaiya Dooj. The appeal comes amid concerns that large gatherings could disrupt commercial activity during the peak festive shopping period.

CTI argues that the continuation of such events could inflict a loss of up to ₹14,000 crore on businesses operating in the central part of the capital. The trade body highlighted that retailers, wholesalers and service providers rely heavily on uninterrupted footfall and logistics during the days leading up to Diwali and Bhaiya Dooj.

The letter did not specify the exact legal mechanism for enforcement, and the police commissioner has not yet publicly responded. The move underscores the tension between civic freedoms and economic interests in a city that hosts some of the country’s busiest commercial corridors during the holiday season.
