A partially built slab in Harsh Vihar, North‑East Delhi collapsed on Sunday, trapping three workers whose bodies were recovered from the rubble.

On Sunday, a concrete slab that was under construction in the Harsh Vihar neighbourhood of North‑East Delhi gave way, causing a sudden collapse that buried several workers on site. The incident was reported shortly after a lantern was placed on the structure, which officials say may have triggered the failure.
Rescue teams from the Delhi Fire Service and local police arrived within minutes and began clearing debris. After several hours of intensive effort, they recovered three bodies, confirming the death toll at three.
The Delhi government has launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the collapse and to assess compliance with safety regulations at the construction site. Preliminary statements suggest that the use of a lantern near the unfinished slab could have ignited flammable material, contributing to the structural failure.
Authorities have urged construction firms across the capital to review safety protocols, especially regarding the use of open flames or electrical devices in active work zones. Families of the deceased have been notified and are being provided with assistance.
The site remains cordoned off as investigators continue their examination, and a detailed report is expected in the coming days.
