A joint operation by the agriculture department and police in Bhind district, Madhya Pradesh, confiscated 100 bags of illegal fertiliser and sent samples to a lab for analysis.
Under the direction of District Collector Pawan Kumar Jain, a coordinated team of agriculture officials and police officers swept through Bhind district to inspect fertiliser stocks ahead of the rabi sowing season. The operation uncovered a cache of unregistered fertiliser, leading to the seizure of 100 bags, which have been forwarded to a state laboratory for quality testing and verification.
The crackdown is part of a broader effort by the state administration to curb the illegal fertiliser trade that threatens farmer incomes and crop yields. Officials warned that sub‑standard or counterfeit inputs can jeopardise the upcoming planting cycle, prompting stricter monitoring across the region.
Authorities said the lab results will determine the next steps, including possible prosecution of the suppliers involved. The joint task force will continue to audit fertiliser dealers and storage facilities throughout Madhya Pradesh to dismantle the network of so‑called "fertiliser mafias" operating in the state.
The seizure underscores the government's resolve to protect agricultural stakeholders from fraudulent practices and ensure that only approved, quality inputs reach the fields.
