The Union government has sanctioned nearly ₹989 crore to fund 39 road improvement schemes across Kerala, aiming to boost connectivity and economic activity.
New Delhi has approved a funding package of about Rs 989 crore for 39 road construction and upgrade projects spread across Kerala. The allocation, announced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, is intended to strengthen the state's transport network and facilitate smoother movement of goods and passengers.
The projects cover a mix of new link roads, widening of existing highways and the construction of bypasses in key districts. State officials are expected to prepare detailed project reports and tender documents within the next few weeks, after which contracts will be awarded to selected contractors.
The central funding is part of a broader push to improve infrastructure in the southern states, with the expectation that better roads will attract investment, reduce travel time and generate employment during the construction phase.
Implementation will be monitored jointly by the central ministry and Kerala's Public Works Department to ensure timely completion and adherence to quality standards. The projects are slated to commence by early next year, subject to final clearances.
If executed as planned, the enhanced road network could significantly boost tourism, agriculture and industrial logistics in Kerala, contributing to the state's overall economic growth.
