The Union government has announced a festive‑time allocation of Rs 1.09 lakh crore to state governments to spur consumption and welfare during the upcoming celebrations.

New Delhi — The central government has released a festive‑season package worth Rs 1.09 lakh crore for all state governments. The allocation is intended to boost consumer spending and fund welfare programmes as the country approaches major festivals.

The finance ministry said the funds will be transferred to states in the coming weeks, allowing them to plan targeted schemes such as subsidies, cash transfers and infrastructure projects that can generate immediate demand.

Officials emphasized that the boost is part of a broader effort to sustain economic momentum after a period of slowdown, and that it aligns with the government's commitment to inclusive growth during high‑spending periods.

State administrations are expected to submit detailed utilisation plans to the centre, ensuring that the money reaches the intended beneficiaries before the festive peak.

The move comes as the fiscal year draws to a close, with policymakers hoping the infusion will translate into higher retail sales and improved household incomes across the nation.
