The Bihar administration has announced that vehicles driven by individuals with suspended licences will be seized on the spot as part of an intensified anti‑violation drive.

Patna, Oct 29 (The Hawk) – The Bihar government has stepped up its fight against traffic offences by ordering the immediate confiscation of any vehicle found being driven by a person whose driving licence has been suspended. The directive, issued by the state transport department, aims to curb repeat violations and improve road safety across the state.

Under the new rule, traffic police at checkpoints and on the spot will have the authority to seize the offending vehicle without prior notice. The seized vehicle will be held until the driver produces a valid licence or clears any pending penalties, after which it may be released on payment of a fine.

Officials said the measure follows a series of accidents involving unqualified drivers and is intended to act as a deterrent. The transport department has instructed district traffic units to intensify patrols, set up additional checkpoints and use portable breath‑alcohol testing kits where necessary.

The crackdown is part of a broader safety campaign that includes stricter enforcement of helmet and seat‑belt laws, as well as higher penalties for overspeeding. Authorities expect the swift seizure policy to reduce the number of illegal drivers on Bihar's roads within weeks.
