Convicted child‑sex offender Asaram did not turn up at Jodhpur prison at the scheduled time after his parole ended, and authorities say he will surrender later today.
Asaram, the former spiritual leader serving a life sentence for the sexual exploitation of a minor, was scheduled to report to Jodhpur Central Jail on Tuesday after his parole period concluded. The parole, which had allowed limited freedom, expired on the appointed date, and officials expected his surrender at the designated hour.
When the time arrived, prison officials reported that Asaram did not appear at the jail entrance. Security personnel conducted a preliminary check of the surrounding area but could not locate him. The Rajasthan police have opened a case for failure to surrender as per the court‑ordered schedule and are monitoring his movements.
State authorities indicated that Asaram is expected to turn himself in later today, as per his legal counsel’s advice. If he surrenders voluntarily, the procedural formalities for re‑incarceration will be completed, and the pending case for non‑compliance may be reviewed by the court.
