Chief Minister Pema Khandu officially launched the Somnath Yatra from Arunachal Pradesh, marking the start of the pilgrimage to the revered Somnath Temple.
Earlier today, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu hoisted the ceremonial flag to commence the Somnath Yatra, a pilgrimage that will culminate at the historic Somnath Temple in Gujarat. The flag‑off ceremony was attended by senior state officials and a contingent of devotees who will travel in a convoy across several states.
The Somnath Yatra holds deep religious significance for Hindus, as the Somnath Temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and a symbol of resilience after repeated destructions. By launching the pilgrimage from the far‑eastern state, officials aim to underscore the pan‑Indian unity of faith.
Speaking at the event, CM Khandu highlighted the cultural ties that bind the nation’s diverse regions and urged participants to uphold the spirit of devotion and harmony throughout the journey. He also affirmed the state government's support for logistical arrangements to ensure the safety of pilgrims.
The convoy is expected to traverse key pilgrimage routes before reaching Gujarat, with local authorities in each state coordinating security and accommodation for the travelers.
