The governments of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam have agreed to accelerate the boundary demarcation process for 33 villages that are currently disputed between the two states.

New Delhi – The administrations of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam have reached a consensus to fast‑track the demarcation of the inter‑state boundary covering 33 villages that remain contested. Both state governments said the move aims to settle long‑standing territorial disagreements and prevent further friction at the frontier.

Officials from the two states will set up a joint technical committee to survey the disputed areas, verify land records and prepare a definitive map. The committee is expected to submit its findings within the next few months, after which the final demarcation will be formalised through the appropriate legal channels.

The agreement follows a series of informal talks held over the past year, during which both sides expressed a desire to resolve the issue amicably. By expediting the process, the states hope to promote development and security for residents of the affected villages.

The central government has been monitoring the negotiations and has pledged administrative support to ensure that the demarcation proceeds without delay. No further details on the exact timeline or the specific villages have been disclosed pending the technical committee’s report.
