The state government of Andhra Pradesh has moved 89,000 residents to safety ahead of Cyclone Arnab’s expected landfall.

Cyclone Arnab, a severe cyclonic storm developing over the Bay of Bengal, is forecast to make landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast within the next 24 hours, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.

In anticipation of the storm, the state disaster management authority has organized the evacuation of roughly 89,000 people from vulnerable coastal districts, relocating them to government‑run relief shelters and higher ground.

Authorities have also deployed rescue teams, medical kits and essential supplies to the shelters, while urging residents to remain indoors and follow official advisories until the cyclone passes.

The evacuation forms part of a broader preparedness plan that includes continuous monitoring of the storm’s intensity and trajectory.
