The Naga Mothers' Association (NMA) has appealed to Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav to intervene in multiple cases of violence against women and girls across the state. The association highlighted concerns over sexual violence, harassment allegations, and unresolved criminal cases.
The Naga Mothers' Association (NMA) has formally requested Governor of Nagaland, Nand Kishore Yadav, to take immediate action regarding escalating incidents of violence against women and girls within the state. A delegation representing the NMA met with the Governor in Kohima on June 17, presenting a memorandum detailing their concerns.
Key issues raised by the association included a sexual violence case involving a minor in Dimapur, where three arrests have been made. The NMA emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, justice for the victim, and adequate rehabilitation. They also voiced significant concern over alleged sexual harassment of senior IAS officer Reny Wilfred, citing an "inordinate delay in action" that has reportedly led to further harassment and job losses for complainants whose contracts were not renewed.
The NMA further drew the Governor's attention to long-standing unresolved criminal cases, referencing the Pimla murder case and the killing of student Vihozonuo Zao in Kohima. The association alleged that forensic evidence in these cases has not been sufficiently pursued, and the police investigations have faced public scrutiny. The delegation also highlighted threats against women advocating for reservation and the subsequent granting of bail to an accused, pointing to perceived inadequacies in the investigation process.
