The YSR Congress Party has alleged that the Andhra Pradesh chief minister misappropriated funds meant for disaster relief, demanding a probe.
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has publicly claimed that the state’s chief minister has misused the relief fund intended for disaster-affected communities. The party’s spokesperson said that allocations meant for flood and cyclone victims were diverted to projects unrelated to emergency relief. YSRCP has called for an immediate inquiry by the state’s finance department and the Comptroller and Auditor General to verify the allegations.
According to the party, the alleged irregularities were discovered during a review of the fund’s disbursement records. It alleges that a significant portion of the money was transferred to government schemes that do not fall under the relief category, raising concerns about transparency and accountability.
The chief minister’s office has not yet responded to the accusations. Opposition leaders have urged the state assembly to debate the issue and seek clarification from the finance ministry. The matter is expected to be examined in the upcoming legislative session.
If proven, the misuse could trigger legal scrutiny under the Prevention of Corruption Act and may affect the ruling party’s standing ahead of the next electoral cycle.
