Youth Arrested for Desecrating Harmandir Sahib After Tearing Garment and Tying Woman’s Pallu

Amritsar police reviewed CCTV footage after a tip, identified a man who tore a part of the shrine’s sacred attire and tied a woman’s pallu, and have now taken him into custody.
A disturbance broke out at the Harmandir Sahib complex in Amritsar when a young man was seen ripping a portion of the shrine’s sacred garment and using a woman’s pallu to bind it. The act, deemed highly disrespectful by worshippers, prompted immediate concern among temple authorities.
Police received a complaint and promptly retrieved the relevant CCTV recordings from the temple’s surveillance system. By analysing the footage, investigators were able to confirm the suspect’s identity and trace his movements within the precinct.
Armed with this visual evidence, law‑enforcement officers located the individual, detained him, and placed him under arrest. The police spokesperson emphasized that any act of desecration at a religious site will be dealt with strictly, underscoring the commitment to protect the sanctity of the shrine.
No injuries were reported, and the incident is currently being investigated under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to outraging religious sentiments.
