Woman electrocuted by high‑voltage wire while fetching water in Begusarai, Bihar

Begusarai district, Bihar, witnessed a tragic accident on Tuesday when a 440‑volt overhead line came into contact with a resident fetching water from a nearby tap. The victim, identified as 28‑year‑old Priyanka, had just returned home after completing her prayers at a local temple. While she was collecting water, the high‑tension wire, reportedly dangling due to a recent storm, touched the metal tap and delivered a lethal shock.

Witnesses immediately called emergency services, but Priyanka was pronounced dead at the scene. Local police have cordoned off the area and are conducting a preliminary investigation to determine why the live wire was exposed. The electricity department has been notified to secure the line and prevent further incidents.

Authorities have urged residents to stay away from exposed power lines and report any damaged infrastructure promptly. A senior official of the Begusarai police department said a detailed report will be filed, and the case will be forwarded to the district magistrate for further action.
