The Winnipeg Free Press previewed a new biopic of 19th‑century poet Arthur Rimbaud, noting its bold approach that echoes the poet’s rebellious spirit.
The Winnipeg Free Press has previewed a biographical film about French poet Arthur Rimbaud that was largely shot in Winnipeg, Canada. The production seeks to capture the poet’s tumultuous life and avant‑garde poetry through a contemporary cinematic lens.
Critics highlighted that the film’s visual style and narrative choices are as daring as Rimbaud’s own defiance of literary conventions. Bold colour palettes, rapid editing and unconventional framing are employed to mirror the poet’s restless energy.
The project makes extensive use of Winnipeg’s historic districts and natural landscapes, transforming them into stand‑ins for 19th‑century France. Local crews and talent were involved, underscoring the city’s growing capacity to host international‑level productions.
While the film is slated for an international festival circuit later this year, early responses suggest it could attract audiences interested in literary history and bold storytelling alike.
