State minister Adhikari has granted the police unrestricted authority to combat violence against women and curb drug trafficking across West Bengal.
State minister Adhikari announced that the West Bengal police will be given full operational freedom to address rising incidents of violence against women and the surge in drug smuggling. The directive, issued during a press briefing, emphasizes swift investigation, tougher prosecution and the use of advanced surveillance tools.
Authorities are expected to coordinate with central agencies, expand narcotics checkpoints and launch community‑based awareness drives. The move comes amid growing public concern over safety of women and the state's reputation as a transit route for illicit drugs.
Police officials welcomed the decision, stating that the expanded mandate will enable faster raids, better intelligence sharing and more decisive action against organized crime networks. The state government has pledged additional resources to support the intensified crackdown.
