The West Bengal government has introduced a new investment policy that encourages land pooling and the repossession of idle industrial plots to boost manufacturing.
Kolkata, West Bengal – The state government unveiled a fresh investment framework aimed at accelerating industrial growth by addressing land availability challenges. The policy proposes a systematic approach to pool private and public land parcels, creating larger, contiguous sites that are more attractive to large‑scale manufacturers.
In addition to land pooling, the scheme includes provisions to identify and repossess unused or under‑utilised industrial plots, thereby freeing up valuable space for new investors. Authorities say the measures are designed to reduce delays in project approvals and lower the overall cost of setting up factories.
Officials highlighted that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to position West Bengal as a competitive manufacturing hub in eastern India. The policy is expected to be operational within the next few months, with a dedicated task force overseeing land aggregation and reclamation processes.
Stakeholders, including industry bodies and real‑estate developers, have welcomed the move, noting that clearer land‑use mechanisms could attract both domestic and foreign capital. The government plans to monitor the policy's impact and make adjustments based on feedback from investors.
The new framework reflects the state's commitment to modernising its investment climate and addressing long‑standing bottlenecks in industrial land allocation.
