The West Bengal Election Commission has announced a fresh window for voter registration to include those who were omitted during the recent Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR).
The Election Commission of West Bengal has opened a new registration period to address gaps identified in the Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR) exercise. The move aims to ensure that eligible citizens who were inadvertently left out can now enrol to vote before the upcoming state elections.
Authorities have instructed district electoral officers to set up additional registration booths and extend operating hours in both urban and rural areas. Voters are required to present valid identity proof, such as a Aadhaar card or passport, along with address documentation.
The commission emphasized that the revised roll will be finalised well ahead of the election schedule to avoid any last‑minute discrepancies. Officials have also launched an awareness campaign through local media and community outreach to inform the public about the new registration window.
Election officials expect the supplemental registration drive to add several lakh names to the electoral roll, thereby strengthening the inclusivity and credibility of the forthcoming polls.
