Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared a compensation package of Rs 242 crore for those affected by recent floods in Malda district.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Thursday that the West Bengal government will provide a total of Rs 242 crore as compensation to families and individuals whose homes and livelihoods were damaged by the recent floods in Malda district.

The relief package will be drawn from the state’s disaster‑relief fund and will be disbursed through local administrative offices, with priority given to those who lost property or agricultural produce. Details on eligibility criteria and the exact quantum per household are expected to be issued in the coming days.

During a press conference in Kolkata, the CM emphasized the urgency of swift rehabilitation and urged district officials to expedite the verification process. She also appealed for community cooperation to ensure that the aid reaches the most vulnerable sections without delay.

State authorities have already deployed rescue teams and relief material to the affected areas, and the compensation announcement is part of a broader effort to restore normalcy in Malda after the severe inundation.

The government has pledged to monitor the implementation of the scheme closely and will release periodic updates on the progress of fund distribution.
